New Media, New Subaltern and Big Data Hegemony

Ebru Yetişkin

29/رجب/1434 03:00 م Salon: ZEYREK SALONU

In the 9th program of the series ArtMemory initiated in October by the Center for Art Studies, we host Ebru Yetişkin from İstanbul Technical University on June 08. We will talk about “New Media, New Subaltern and Big Data Hegemony”. The event begins at 3 p.m.  in Zeyrek Hall of BSV and is free and open to the public.

Following her works on neo-colonization and new media, Ebru Yetiskin will discuss how contemporary hegemony is being reproduced by collecting and using data. Focusing on the concept of ‘the new subaltern’ of Gayatri Spivak, Yetiskin will examine today’s neoliberal mechanisms of colonization by focusing both on the violence and violation in knowledge/power production, and other uses of new media technologies in audio-visual works, that are on the axis of science, technology and art.
