On February 15th 2016, Center for Turkish Studies will host Mehmet Çetin* under the diskussions theses-articles. Çetinwill deliver a speech about “The eco - logistics analysis of the nineteenth century Ottoman Republic: The Crimean War case"** based on his thesis.

The consept of logistics which corresponds to the flow of financial resource and information between costumer and supply center in the commercial life was not widely used until the 19th century. In spite of this, the concept of logistics has an extensive coverage in terms of military perspectives. The logistics of war which is also considered as the art of war in the literature, has primarily realized as the organization of supply activities in the Ottoman Empire. It has been a very popular issue how Ottoman Empire and the other huge empires existed in Europe and Asia could mobilize the massive armies. In this respect the Crimean War has been a milestone in terms of the states which took part in this war. In this study, the 19th century Ottoman war logistics and supply organization, developed related to it have been examined in the case of the Crimean War. The preparations for campaign between the time period that has started with the nonintercourse between Ottoman Empire and Russia in the 21st May in 1853, till the formal declaration of war by Ottoman Empire in the 4th October in 1853 and the developments in despatching, armament, provision, transportation – communication, sanitary and financial activities which form the supply organizations during the war is analyzed in the historical extent. The process which includes implementing the supply of allies and borrowing from the foreign states for the first time has led to many innovations on war logistics in terms of Ottoman Empire.
