Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Moctar El-Shinqiti

Writer, poet and political analyst from Mauritania. Professor of history of religion at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Qatar Foundation (Doha, Qatar). His academic interests include political thought, religious sectarianism, comparative religion and Islamic-American relations. Among his books in Arabic: The Islamic Movement in Sudan (London, 2002; Algiers, 2004, Beirut 2010); Political Discords Among the Prophet's Companions (Damascus, 2004; Algiers, 2005; Beirut 2010); Political Fatwas: Conversations on Religion and Politics, Jeddah, 2006); The Best Muslim Minds in the Twentieth Century (Damascus 2011); Wounds of the Soul (a poetic collection). Among his works in English: “The Crusades’ Impact on Sunni-Shi’a Relations” (a PhD dissertation in history of religion at Texas Tech University), “Saladin in the Sunni and Shi’a Memories,” “A Painful Quest for God: the Pre-conversion Moment of Augustine and Al-Ghazali,” “Orientalism and Occidentalism: Edward Said vs. Bernard Lewis,” “Early American Perceptions of Muslims,” “Slaves of Allah: Early African Muslims in America.” Most of his works were translated and published in Turkish Language (Istanbul: Mana, 2006 and 2009). He is a regular contributor at the website of Al-Jazeera TV channel, (www.aljazeera.net) where he has published more than 300 analytical articles in Arabic and English. He also authored few studies on behalf of Doha Institute and Aljazeera Center for Studies.
